The cardiovascular system is linked to a well functioning brain. Structural failure in small blood vessels damages brain tissue. In older adults, the end stages of failing blood vessels is “Vascular dementia.” Aerobic exercise significantly enhanced cognitive abilities. Resistance training had a pronounced effect on everyday abilities and memory. Doctors should prescribe both types of exercise to improve brain health in people over 50, say the researchers. Hispanics’ share of the population is expected to widen from ~20% now to ~25% by 2045. Hispanic men are more likely to go to the emergency room as their primary source of treatment. Hispanic men that drink tend to drink more heavily than the overall population. Hospitals frequently lack cultural understanding and Spanish-speaking staff. Caregiver Training Reduces Turnover
Recognizing caregivers for their hard work and offering them opportunities to continue their education may help agencies reduce turnover. Yet the majority of agencies—92%—showed recognition for their caregivers in 2015 with gift cards. About 77% of agencies surveyed gave hand-written thank you cards, 70% gave pay raises, 69% gave bonuses and 62% made telephone calls.
The more orientation training new caregivers receive, the less likely they are to leave an agency. Caregivers are looking for additional CPR, first aid and medical training. Caregivers also crave hands on/client specific training, dementia/Alzheimer’s training, and certified nursing assistant (CNA) training. Home Health Care News.

The median age today is 37.8 years. In 2000 it was 35.4 years and in 2026 it will be 39.3 years. Homeownership rate has been declining for just about everyone except for older folks. We are facing a generation of lower home demand even as retirees will be looking to sell. The decline in home ownership should raise concerns when baby boomers start selling their home.
